The Art of Saying No

INVITATION
  1. Hey, thanks fot the invitation, but I have a meeting planned for the very day since long.
  2. Hey, thanks but that day has been planned since long.
  3. Wow, it's been long, I really want to join in but I can't as ..

OFFERING DISCOUNTS
  1. Thank you for the offer but we have something similar like this.
  2. I really appreciate your offer and I hope it will stay for a long time, Currently I already have this.
FRIENDS REQUEST/OFFER
  1. I would like to take you on that offer some other time, as it seems little difficult this time.
  2. Sorry, but there is always a next time.
  3. There's always a next time brother, thanks for the offer, though, pardon me this time.
SAYING NO TO GIVING THINGS
  1. I'm glad you liked it, thanks, but this is a gift from my grandmother.
  2. You have a great taste, but.
SAYING NO TO MONEY REQUEST
  1. Hey, I can understand but this month has been really difficult to me.
  2. I can very well relate, but I'm also facing the same situation.
  3. I know it is really hard, I've been through the worst and I'm still reeling under the effect.
  4. I've been through this, I know how it is but trust me, this too shall pass, just hang in there.
SAYING NO TO TASKS
  1. I've over-booked myself for today and tomorrow. Can we plan this post that.
  2. I've a lot on my plate for this week.
STRATEGY:
3T - Thanks - Task - Time
1. Say, “Hey, thanks so much for coming in. I really appreciate it."
2. Then you go to Task. And you say, “I’m just working on a really urgent task at the moment.”
Now, I said ‘urgent.’ The funny thing is that people should respect ‘important,’ but a lot of the time, they don’t. They actually respect “urgent” more. So you say the word “urgent”.
3. And then you move onto Time. “When would be a better time for us to catch up?” Note: 3 pm is usually a good time to have a conversation, because you’ve done all your thinking, all your strategic time.
I leave conversations to after 3pm most of the time.” So you can say, “Hey, how does after 3pm sound? Can we chat about it then?” Or set up a time in the future.
